Older Adults and Individuals with Disabilities

During emergencies and disasters, it is especially important to provide assistance to those people with special needs. These include the elderly and disabled and people with limited English proficiency (LEP). The Red Cross has developed materials to assist these individuals. Emergency Preparedness Seminars Set For Seniors

“Communication is the Key” is the theme of a one-hour seminar designed to help older adults prepare for unexpected emergencies. The seminar, provident free to charge by CERN and the  Neighbor-to-Neighbor Program of Howard County, includes information on how to implement communication strategies with family, friends and neighbors before emergencies strike.  Seminar participants will be shown how to create an emergency kit and to tag home equipment in the event of lost power, water or heat.
 
Discussion about the importance of establishing a community or neighborhood network of support before emergencies or disaster take place will be included in the seminar.
